Psychotherapy From Beyond The Grave

April 26, 2008 8:50 PM

I was feeling a little bummed out today, but then I was flipping through some books and wouldn't you know it, Carl Jung knows exactly how to cheer me up. From the introduction to Symbols of Transformation:

It is a moral duty for the man of science to expose himself to the risk of committing error.

-- Ferrero

Whew, that's a relief -- I was only doing my moral duty.

Why is it so fucking hard to find a toothbrush holder made for two brushes? Are we the only two-toothbrush household in the country?

Mutually Abusive Relationship

April 21, 2008 8:35 PM

Today I punched a Muni bus so hard my hand swelled up. It's currently iced and elevated, and I'm typing like a one-handed stroke victim. It was a stupid thing to do -- it hurt me more than it hurt them -- but it was still far more satisfying than just standing there watching and whimpering as the driver skipped my stop.

Next time I'll use brass knuckles.

For the Jaw-Droppingly Wealthy

April 20, 2008 3:02 PM

We all know that money = happiness, but if I found myself spending money on bullshit for my kids like "lilliput play homes," I think it would make me feel kind of sad.

Sixty

April 18, 2008 9:12 AM

Until this month, our phone was on the Lifeline program -- intended for the very poor, but we were able to take advantage because of how the Academy of Art paid me (or, more accurately, didn't). Now the Lifeline's finally expired and we're paying the regular price for cheap internet -- which turns out to be $60 a month. WTF? Is that right? Thirty dollars for slow DSL, and another thirty just for a dial tone? Seriously?

All Orkut seems to be good for is getting spam from Brazilians -- or so I thought until this gem arrived today in my "scrapbook," whatever the hell that is:

"An evil laugh is often entertaining for friends because each one may be unique."

An explanatory OGG file is included with the entry to clear up any lingering confusion.

Oh my God! Isn't the weather awesome today? It's so nice! I spent all day inside, with the curtains drawn, untangling yarn. I couldn't think of anything else to do.

Blanket?

April 9, 2008 3:19 PM

I was reading this movie review for CJ7 and came across the following:

It's rated PG for cartoonish violence, brushes with "Bambi"-esque mortality and the word "b-----t" in the subtitles.

"B-----t?" What the fuck is "b----t?" Breastt? Butttt? Bitchtt? Baldest?

One Last Email to Muni

April 2, 2008 10:21 AM

I think I'm approaching something like a rifle-in-the-belltower tone with this one.

I don't know if you people think this is some kind of a game, but the rest of us rely on the buses to get to work and then home again. Maybe you think it's funny or just not important, but while you're lounging around, there's a whole city full of commuters waiting at bus stops with the expectation that the buses are going to come in something like a reasonable, predictable manner. And that when they don't, that the least we can expect is an apology and a promise to do better -- rather than submitting a comment and then waiting a month for a cut-and-pasted form email from some joker at Muni named Elvira who clearly can't be bothered to care.

Yet again, two bus drivers began their routes simultaneously -- this time it was Monday, April 1, at about 7:45pm, and the bus numbers were 8204 and 8232. I didn't get 8204's run number, but 8232's was 772. The driver wasn't wearing any identifying number, as is so often the case.

I don't know how many times I've submitted a complaint about how the drivers on this route are guilty of this complete waste of time and money. A dozen, maybe? And I know how it's going to go this time: this message will probably be read in a few weeks, and then you'll wait another few weeks to send out a vague email, and then nothing's going to change because you obviously lack the mechanism to acknowledge your shortcomings and correct them.

That's a real bang-up job you're doing over there in the Passenger Services Department. You ought to be real proud of yourselves.

Matt
